If you can find a installation (installers) manual for a solution panel (any version), that has the 300+ pages is probably a good place to start. I find it explains alot of things in more detail than alot of other installer manuals. Braun Type 4169 Hand Blender Manual Clothing. Somewhere else to start is do a google search on how Normally Open (NO), & Normally Close (NC) circuits work. Then look up how to use a multimeter to measure voltages AC & DC, how to measure resistance or continuity of a circuit. One more thing, look up how relays work. Anybody else got anything else to add for some basic insight.

Search Amazon.com. Although mainly American, and often dated (e.g. Detailing window foil) there are quite a few easily available textbooks which will teach the theory and the electronics to someone who might not learn on the job the way most Australian techs do. The installers manuals for every alarm I've seen, whilst comprehensive in terms of programming and features, often compress wiring theory into a single schematic, without explaining the background to it. For example, why EOL resistors are installed at the end of line. A lot of it is commonsense AFTER someone's explained it to you, but not something you'll work out unassisted.
